What paper do you use for prints?
(from Chris Horsfield)
|
I use Ilford Warmtone - Resin Coated for contact prints and MGW
1K Fibre-Base for fine prints. |
What black and white and what colour film do you usually use? (from Stewart Bootles) |
My favourite black and white films are Ilford Delta 400, Ilford FP4 and Delta 3200. For my still life work, I use Ilford Pan F Plus. I find that the Delta 400 will comfortably push to 800asa, but I use HP5 down-rated to 200asa for my nightclub/party work where I need to control a wide range of contrast. I've used Agfa Rodinal developer in various dilutions for 25 years, so I guess I'll stick with it for now! For colour I mainly use negative, Kodak Portra NC 160 and 800asa.

Dear Mr Clark, I have started school for photography and wanted to know what size lens do you use for your
photographs ?

I am currently using an enormous high-testosterone 1000mm lens on a Pentax 6x7.
Weighs a ton and makes me feel Rambo-macho! |
Hi Bob,
Long time fan and nearly pro myself. Just started shooting celebrities and wanted to know about what lighting do you use, in studio and location? I heard that you use Aura flash? is it bit like para umbrellas? Better?
Regards
Umit Ulgen

Hi Umit
At the moment I prefer to use a mixture of daylight (where possible),
with small Lumedyne flash heads, or a 500watt tungsten bulb and/or HMI's or Redheads.
I have no set rules about lighting. I just keep looking, and moving stuff around until it works.
There is nothing less interesting than 'formula' lighting, especially with flash which can look
staged and frozen.
I suggest you avoid all the text books and just experiment with as many different light-sources
as possible used in different ways. |
Bob's Tip:
To achieve maximum cool-tone blacks use re-development
after partial or total bleaching or, if you're a Trust Fund Babe, try
various degrees of gold-toner.
